Nether Stowey is a picturesque village set at the foot of the Quantock Hills. The village is referred to in the Domesday Book and has many surviving medieval buildings, including the outline remains of an 11th century motte and bailey castle.

The Quantock countryside was an inspiration to the romantic poets Coleridge and Wordsworth who both lived in the area for a period of their lives. Coleridge Cottage, in Nether Stowey, is where some of the writer's most famous works were composed, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape. It is now owned by the National Trust and is open to the public. The Coleridge Way is a recently developed walking route following in the footsteps of the poet. It begins in Nether Stowey and crosses the Quantocks, Brendon Hills and parts of Exmoor to the coast at Porlock. There are several good pubs and places to eat and a micro- brewery in the centre of the village. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking, horse-riding and nature lovers.
