Arts & Culture in Somerset

Come and visit some of Somerset's craft and traditional arts centres. These include our many cider makers such as Sheppy's where traditional Somerset Cider has been made by the Sheppy family for generations. The Willows and Wetlands are situated on the Somerset Levels and Moors where the soil and the climate is ideal for Willow growing. The Coate family have run a thriving Willow-growing and basket-making industry here for over a century.

Arts and Culture

Somerset has many galleries such as the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen gallery at Somerton or the One Craft gallery at Shepton Mallet to showcase the work of craftsmen who have turned traditional trades such as Ironmongery, carving, thatching and weaving into profitable highly-specialised crafts that can be viewed and bought around the county.

Crafts such as silver and gold jewellery, decorative leatherwork, paintings, and much more can be found at Clevedon Craft Centre located on the outskirts of this Victorian town.

Potters such as John Leach at Muchelney and Nick Goldsmith from the Quantock Pottery work in their Somerset potteries. Come and visit them and take away a unique gift from Somerset.

For an opportunity to visit hundreds of local artists and craftspeople in their own studios plus a whole host of exhibitions and events throughout the county come to Somerset during the Somerset Art Weeks which are held every other year and due to take place again in September 2008 however the North Somerset Art Weeks are being held this year in May.
